Why Emerge Collaborative?

Because we saw that young adults are struggling with their faith.

Across the U.S., young adults who grew up in church are wrestling with what it means to follow Jesus in this world. This reality is not just a research-backed observation. It’s a challenge for students, a heartbreak for families, and a wake-up call for the church. As professionals in college ministry and student life, we saw this happening across six different universities, and we wanted to find out why for ourselves.

Because we wanted real answers, not just speculation.

We conducted a comprehensive research study to uncover the real reasons behind this trend. We asked young adults between the ages of 18 and 23 who consider themselves “done” with church what has driven them away. One surprising theme emerged: Despite the fact that parents often believe they’re powerless once their kid turns 18, the reality is that parents remain one of the most powerful influences in their child’s faith journey, even as their kids emerge into adulthood. That influence can be a factor in young adults choosing to leave the faith — or allowing them to heal.

Because we found that parents are vital … but under-equipped.

Our study — and others’ research on emerging adult spirituality — revealed that parents are a critical factor in a young adult’s spiritual resilience, especially during seasons of doubt, instability, and questioning. Yet most parents feel unprepared to nurture identity formation and faith growth once their children leave the house and begin emerging into adulthood. It’s not about controlling choices or forcing church attendance; it’s about knowing how to stay connected, speak with wisdom, and create a soft landing place when life gets hard. The truth is, even the best parents (and you’re a wonderful parent!) often don’t know how to parent an adult. Yet we could find very few resources to help parents do that.

Because we saw a need for a tailored solution.

Emerge Collaborative exists to bridge this gap. We give parents the insight, tools, and encouragement they need to walk alongside their young adults in faith. Our resources, courses, and coaching equip families for the college transition so parents can release their kids with confidence, without losing connection. Partnering with us means giving young adults the faith-filled support they need for a lifetime, not just a season.

Because we are research-driven and hope-filled.

We’re not guessing. We’re committed to rigorous study, tested strategies, and practical tools — all grounded in the belief that God is faithful in every generation. Our mission is simple: to care for young adults by equipping their parents.

Because we hope you see for yourself.
